FOREIGN TRADE ZONE APPROVED

The FTZ (Foreign Trade Zone) has been approved by the U.S. Department of Commerce for West Fort Bend County. The location is shown in the figure below.

This zone covers the CenterPoint Intermodal on the north side of US 59 and the GBI International Intermodal on the south side. This zone will make Fort Bend County, Kendleton and Rosenberg competitive on a world-wide scale to attract and keep high quality jobs in Fort Bend. "This proves that West Fort Bend County, with its vast logistics opportunities, is quickly becoming a major player in industrial development in the Houston region, said Rosenberg Mayor, Joe Guerecky."

We are certainly pleased that this designation has been approved, said Commissioner Morrison and Mayor Darryl Humphrey of Kendleton. Companies look globally when deciding to locate or expand their new facilities. They evaluate their costs when they make these decisions, including the import and export taxes they will pay on their raw materials and products. The FTZ will allow companies to avoid these taxes until their product enters the stream of commerce. This is a valuable tool to help attract these businesses to the County.

Thanks to the Fort Bend Herald and Fort Bend Now for the coverage.

This will be a huge boon for Kendleton to attract and keep quality jobs.
